With the European Union’s (EU) adoption of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) on the 10th of October 2024, the 36-month clock for full compliance with the regulation has begun. Any company looking to sell a product within the EU must meet strict security-oriented design and reporting requirements or face steep fines if they are found to not be in compliance. Significant engineering effort will be required to bring any products into compliance with the regulation. This not only includes engineering efforts to meet the security requirements of a product, but to meet the reporting obligations to notify the appropriate agencies, customers, and providers, publish corrective measures to customers, create and distribute updates to address any discovered vulnerabilities, and many other requirements.
